Looking forward to your thoughts on the “cringy” “problem with ‘Indigenous’”!
I’m reminded of a story Deondre Smiles told at the AAG conference this year about having to endure a “cringy” five minute land acknowledgement before proceeding with a tourist trip in a gondola up a BC mountain.
the talk i'm posting next week plus text has a more extended treatment on the problem with both "I" words, identity and Indigenous.
and LOL the land acknowledgement for a tourist gondola. that's the stage we're at in much of Canada. land acknowledgements are most powerful where people are still surprised by them.
